Michael Barley Beadmaking, 812315
10/3-5/08,
Fri 12pm - 8pm, Sat 10am - 7pm, Sun 10am - 6pm

Beadmaking with Michael Barley class on March 14 from 12pm - 7pm and 15-16, 2008 from 10 am - 5 pm. The focus of the class will be on learning through experimentation. My goal for the class is to help the students learn techniques that will enhance their own style of bead-making. This class is designed for intermediate students who have experience with propane/oxygen torches. I'm excited about teaching this class. We'll be working with Moretti / Effetre glass. I'll be demonstrating several techniques on blending colors to help the students develop their own unique colors. We'll be working with silver leaf to achieve a variety of effects and to use it in ways to alter the colors of the glass. We'll be making canes using an optic mold and learn ways to apply the cane to achieve different designs. I'll be showing ways to make custom molds for shaping beads. I'll demonstrate my method for clear casing, pulling twisted canes, shaping beads as well as how to use the custom molds that the students can make. We'll be making beads using decals and will blow shards to incorporate into the bead. The class is divided about equally between my demonstrations and time for the students to practice on the torch. Supplies and lunch are included. If you have personal eye protection or any particular glass colors or tools you want to use in the class you may bring them.
